Prior to joining MEE-FIT Elaine wasn’t doing much in the way of exercise. She’d tried various gyms across the years, but never found the right one for her;
“I did try a gym a few years ago but it only lasted a couple of months. I hated the lack of support and direction. The staff just stayed by the desk and it seemed full of people trying to impress one another.No place for me I decided, so that was that. Back to the desk job and no time for any real exercise.”
Elaine also struggled with the motivation to exercise on her own. When she arrived at the gym she wasn’t too sure what to do, and didn’t have the knowledge or confidence to use the equipment effectively.
Due to her job, sat at a desk 5 days a week, and her busy family life Elaine felt like she didn’t really have time to exercise;
“That was my reasoning at the time, however looking back I now realise I was just making excuses for myself.
I felt like I had no energy and over the years my weight had crept up. I was unhappy with how I felt even though I had lost a bit of weight on my own. I joined Slimming World and lost a bit more but knew I had to keep going or it would all pile back on in no time at all.”
Before joining MEE-FIT Elaine had previously been aware of us, but hadn’t really given us much attention or thought;
“Then one evening I saw the opportunity for a 30 day trial and it seemed like a good idea; close to work so nice and handy. More importantly I realized my strength was diminishing slowly but surely.
My poor mum had suffered for years with osteoporosis and I knew I needed to do something to ensure my own bone health was maintained, in fact I wanted to improve it if I could.”
Elaine started her 30 day trial back in June 2018 and has been training with us ever since;
“Everything at MEE-FIT makes it easy to keep going. I haven’t looked back since I joined last June and I have maintained my personal goal to attend at least 3 times a week.
The coaches are so friendly and welcoming as well as being very observant. This definitely rubs off on all the members and everyone is so supportive and genuinely great fun to work with. It’s all the little things that make the difference and make the experience such a great one.
I would, and have, recommended MEE-FIT to anyone looking for a great way to improve their fitness. It’s a personal journey tailored to you but with all the added benefits of making new friends, social events, education on nutrition and support to manage weight loss.
There’s light-hearted competition if you are interested but no pressure. It’s so much more than I ever thought a gym would or could be.”
Elaine has seen some amazing improvements in her strength and fitness, as well as a reduction in pain around some of her joints which had previously given her lots of issues – such as knees and ankles. They aren’t perfect, but they’re much better than they were previously;
“Since joining I have definitely improved my strength and fitness levels. I feel more toned and can do far more now than when I started. Although there are still some goals I still want to achieve!
I have lost a stone, I want to lose more, but if I hadn’t joined I am sure I would be a stone heavier by now. I am really happy to feel healthier and have loads more energy than I did a year ago.”
Elaine’s message to anyone considering working with us at MEE-FIT would be this;
“Why not give it a go? I have had a complete turn around from saying ‘I am not a gym goer and never will be’ to proving myself to be so wrong. But then it’s not a gym it’s MEE-FIT and that’s the difference!!”
